Ocean launches the first digital Stay Safe tool together with Westfield Mall of the Netherlands

Amsterdam, May 2020 – Ocean Outdoor Nederland developed the first digital Stay Safe augmented reality tool in recent weeks. Launching partner Westfield Mall of the Netherlands is the first to use this tool. This innovative application detects passers-by in the shopping centre and via the digital screen, it tells when they are not keeping enough distance from each other.


The current situation in which our society finds itself at the moment requires adaptability, but also innovation. Measures taken by the government and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus are still in force. Recent weeks and the coming period see relaxation, but the rule to keep 1,5 metres apart will continue to apply. With Westfield Mall of the Netherlands as a launching partner, Ocean wants to help draw people’s attention to this distance rule.

The digital stay safe application is a tool that detects the public walking past the digital screen and simultaneously shows it on the screen with a large grey circle of 1.5 metres around each person. When people keep less than 1.5 metres away from each other, the circle turns red. This way, they are reminded of the fact that they’re not keeping enough distance. As soon as the people keep enough distance again, the red circle will turn grey again.

The Stay Safe tool can be used for any other interactive digital screen of Ocean Outdoor in the Netherlands.
