Exactly one week ago, Ocean Outdoor Nederland went live with the Ocean SMEs Support Fund. This is an initiative to support and help the hardest-hit sectors and SMEs in these extreme times. For that purpose, we set up a fund with a media value of more than 10 million euros gross, which can be used by affected enterprises in April and May of this year. Nearly 40 trade associations and enterprises registered with Ocean in the first week, with more to follow daily. Throughout the Netherlands, the first campaigns were visible on the digital large-format screens in the cities and the billboards along the motorways.

The type of advertiser is very diverse, each with its own story and needs. We at Ocean try to accommodate everyone as best we can.

Hugo van Drie Head of Sunweb Sun at the Sunweb Group: “As a travel organisation, you want as many people as possible to enjoy a well-deserved holiday. Getting people out of their homes and discovering the most beautiful places in the world, that’s our goal. But these are exceptional times, so you have to adapt your message. We have chosen to use the advertising space made available by Ocean to encourage Dutch people to stay at home. Stay at home now, increased enjoyment later. The approach of the campaign is playful, the message behind it bitterly serious. The campaign refers to the fact that at the moment, all of us can only spend our holiday in our own home. Making the most of it and following the government guidelines will ensure that we can enjoy the real holiday destinations again.”

Rogier de Bruijn owner and founder of Mondain. Mondain Amsterdam, founded in 2014, is an Amsterdam-based sneaker label: “Despite the mandatory distance, Ocean Outdoor brought us closer to the consumer and the desired visibility that we need as an entrepreneur in these times.”

Meindert van den Heuvel Managing Director Ocean Outdoor Nederland: “The aim of the Ocean SME Support Fund is to keep the economy running or to get it going again. And businesses respond to it very well and make grateful use of it. From the Horeca Nederland (Dutch trade association for the hotel and catering industry) to Fonds Gehandicaptensport (a fund for disabled sports). From Madurodam to the Mauritshuis. From a franchise of local chip shops to a group of social enterprises. From the VEA (advertising agencies) to Retail Netherlands. First of all, we hope to set a good example, that more enterprises will realise we can and should help each other. And second, that the enterprises we help now become ambassadors to spread this story.”

There is still space available, so if there’s interest, we have summarised the rules below again, but please do not hesitate to contact us!

Rules of the Ocean SME Support Fund:

  • The Ocean SME Support Fund is only open to SMEs and they must register as a collective;
  • The enterprises are demonstrably damaged by the consequences of the Corona virus;
  • The enterprises are open for business or may open for business in the short term;
  • The digital campaigns will be placed in April and May 2020.
